What is JTAES?

The Journal of Tropical Agriculture and Environmental Sustainability (JTAES) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published by the Faculty of Agriculture, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria.

JTAES is dedicated to disseminating high-quality original research, review articles, short communications, and technical notes across all fields of tropical agriculture and environmental sustainability. The journal publishes two issues per year — January–June and July–December.

All published articles are freely available to readers worldwide under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) licence. There are no article processing charges (APCs) — submission and publication are completely free.

Effects of Nitrogen Fertilisation Rates on Maize (Zea mays L.) Grain Yield and Soil Organic Carbon in Ondo State, Nigeria

This study evaluated the effects of varying nitrogen fertilisation rates (0, 60, 90, 120, and 150 kg N/ha) on maize grain yield, plant growth parameters, and soil organic carbon dynamics under tropical conditions. Results showed significant yield responses across N treatments, with optimum yield recorded at 120 kg N/ha.

Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Broiler Chickens Fed Diets Supplemented with Moringa oleifera Leaf Meal

An eight-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the dietary inclusion of Moringa oleifera leaf meal (MOLM) at 0%, 2.5%, 5.0%, and 7.5% on the growth performance, carcass yield, and haematological parameters of Arbor Acres broiler chickens. Inclusion at 5.0% significantly improved feed conversion ratio and dressing percentage.

Water Quality Parameters and Growth Response of Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Under Different Stocking Densities in Earthen Ponds

The experiment investigated the influence of stocking density on water quality dynamics and growth performance of Nile tilapia over 90 days. Physicochemical parameters including dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, ammonia, and nitrite were monitored biweekly. Lower stocking density consistently produced superior growth and survival rates.

Carbon Footprint of Smallholder Agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic Review of Mitigation Strategies

This systematic review synthesised 67 peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2025 examining greenhouse gas emissions from smallholder farming systems in sub-Saharan Africa. Key mitigation strategies identified include improved nitrogen use efficiency, agroforestry integration, and conservation tillage practices.

Updated Author Guidelines — APA 7th Edition Now Required
Effective from January 2026, all manuscripts submitted to JTAES must follow APA 7th Edition referencing style. Authors are advised to review the updated author guidelines before submission. Manuscripts that do not comply will be returned for revision prior to peer review.
